China has recorded a historic trade surplus, despite a serious ongoing trade war with the United States in 2025. According to official data, the country's overall trade surplus reached approximately $1.2 trillion, which represents a significant increase compared to the previous year.
The editorial reports, citing Reuters, that according to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs of China, export figures showed a significant increase, especially in the last month of the year. In December, exports rose by 6.6 percent year-on-year in US dollar terms, and the overall annual export growth reached 5.5 percent.
The data indicates that these figures increased the country's trade surplus by approximately 20 percent compared to 2024, reaching $1.2 trillion. At the same time, the total trade turnover between China and the United States decreased by 18.7 percent year-on-year to $559 billion.
China's exports to the United States also decreased by 20 percent to $420 billion. Customs official Wang Jun explained these results by diversifying trade partners and strengthening economic resilience, and predicted that exports would continue to support the economy in 2026.
