Esteemed President Ilham Aliyev: “Commitment to peace is the main indicator of reconciliation between states and peoples.”
During a meeting with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, who visited Azerbaijan recently, the Head of State also spoke about the work being done to ensure peace and stability in the region. The President stated that political will and mutual trust are among the key factors for achieving lasting peace in the region. Indeed, Azerbaijan is currently taking concrete and practical steps in this direction. These steps are not limited to political statements but are also accompanied by real economic and humanitarian cooperation initiatives. As we know, our country has already begun to establish certain economic ties with Armenia. Azerbaijan has started supplying important oil products. In addition, all existing restrictions on the transit of goods from other countries to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory have been lifted. The implementation of these steps is assessed as a clear example of Azerbaijan's commitment to peace and cooperation in the region. The Head of State noted that these steps demonstrate Azerbaijan's intention to contribute to the peace process not only through signed documents but also through real and practical activities. According to the President, sometimes various agreements remain on paper for a long time, and their actual implementation is delayed. Azerbaijan, on the other hand, advocates for progress towards peace to be accompanied by concrete steps.
Significant steps have been taken towards peace between the parties during the past period, and achieving peace by August 2025 is considered an important outcome of this process. According to the Esteemed President, achieving such a result in less than two years after the last bloody conflict shows how important political will and dialogue are. In a joint statement to the press with the distinguished guest, Ilham Aliyev noted that if both sides continuously demonstrate their commitment to peace and political will, it will be the strongest indicator of reconciliation between states and peoples. Of course, peace is the greatest value for every nation, and countries that know what it means to live in a state of war understand the value of peace better.
As a country that has lived in conflict for many years, Azerbaijan understands the importance of peace very well and attaches special importance to ensuring stability in the region. In this regard, Azerbaijan is ready to use all opportunities to establish lasting peace in the region. Today, regional security, cooperation, and peace are among the priority areas for Azerbaijan, and continuing dialogue with international partners in this field is of great importance.
