The editorial reports, citing BTA, that Rumen Radev will submit his resignation on Tuesday and expressed his confidence that Vice President Iliana Yotova would be a worthy candidate to act as head of state.
The information notes that according to Article 97 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic can submit their resignation to the Constitutional Court before the end of their term. The Constitutional Court must investigate whether the president's resignation is voluntary within a certain period, and if a positive decision is made, the president's powers will be terminated, and the Vice President will begin performing the duties of the office.
It is recalled that Rumen Radev was first elected President of Bulgaria in November 2016 and began performing his duties in January 2017. He was re-elected in 2021, serving a second term as head of state.
