The issue of recognizing Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization has been raised on the eve of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. According to EU officials, this step was taken in response to the Iranian regime's repression of its own citizens.

Redaksiya reports that Kaja Kallas, speaking before the meeting of EU foreign ministers, shared her views on the inclusion of the IRGC on the terror list. She stated that this decision would "put the IRGC on the same level as Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and ISIS." According to Kallas, "If you act like a terrorist, you should be treated like a terrorist."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that the decision to recognize the IRGC as a "terrorist organization" should have been made long ago. She stated, "The term 'terrorist' is extremely fitting for a regime that crushes protests by its own people with blood." Von der Leyen also noted that she "welcomed the political agreement reached on new sanctions against the bloody Iranian regime." Kallas, in turn, assessed this step as decisive, emphasizing, "Every regime that kills thousands of its own people is preparing its own end." She stated that the repression would not go unpunished and announced that EU foreign ministers had recognized the IRGC as a terrorist organization.

Kaja Kallas also shared a message on the US-based "X" social media platform regarding this issue. Von der Leyen stated that Europe stands with the Iranian people who are bravely fighting for freedom. This decision demonstrates the EU's firm stance against the Iranian regime's human rights violations and could lead to significant changes in the international community's policy towards Iran.
