Recently, the European Union has been making efforts towards further developing relations with Azerbaijan. This was clearly visible at the 7th summit of the European Political Community held in Copenhagen. Azerbaijan was also represented at a high level at the 7th summit of the European Political Community.
These views were expressed to Redaksiya by MP Konul Nurullayeva.
According to her, President Ilham Aliyev attended this meeting at the special invitation of the leadership of Denmark and the European Union. As at the Tirana summit, a meeting was held in Copenhagen with the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. From the details of the talks, it can be concluded that the EU is interested in the development of relations with Azerbaijan with positive dynamics.
At the meeting, António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen congratulated our head of state on the achievements made in Washington regarding the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which indicates the EU's interest in ensuring lasting peace in the region. EU officials hope that the Washington agreements will contribute to ensuring sustainable peace in the region.
Official Baku has always advocated for establishing sincere relations with partners that ensure mutual interests. However, the EU's biased behavior at various times caused legitimate dissatisfaction in Azerbaijan. Nevertheless, high-ranking representatives of the European Commission always refer to Azerbaijan as a reliable partner in the energy sector and a Pan-European gas supplier. Today, Azerbaijan's natural gas reaches 10 European countries. At the same time, Azerbaijan has signed a strategic partnership document with 9 members of the European Union.
It is no coincidence that after Azerbaijan and the European Commission signed a memorandum on strategic partnership in the energy sector, gas supply to Europe increased by approximately 60 percent. Thanks to the green energy agenda, which allows for saving natural gas, Azerbaijan will play an even more important role for its partners in terms of energy security. In parallel, the increasing strategic importance of the Middle Corridor also enhances Azerbaijan's significance for the EU.
As is known, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, also visited our country recently. During the visit, Ms. Kos stated that successful cooperation has been established between the European Union and Azerbaijan in the energy sector, and also emphasized that there are great prospects for further developing cooperation in the transport sector.
At the Copenhagen summit, E. Macron's meeting with Mr. President already confirmed that Paris also views relations with Baku through the prism of the EU.
In other words, the European Union strives to utilize all opportunities to develop and elevate relations with Azerbaijan to a new level.
