US Lifts Sanctions on Kazakhstan's Oil Exports

According to reports published in the Kazakh press, the United States (US), citing the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), has lifted sanctions against the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), whose operations were previously blocked, and Kazakhstan's largest oil fields, Tengiz and Karachaganak. This decision is of significant importance for Kazakhstan's oil industry and creates new opportunities in the country's energy exports.

Redaksiya reports that sanctions imposed against Russia's oil exports due to the Russia-Ukraine war and disruptions in the CPC line's operations for various reasons had forced Kazakhstan to seek new routes and agreements for its export pathways. This situation necessitated Kazakhstan taking urgent steps to diversify its oil exports and access new markets.

The CPC line is known as the main oil pipeline that provides access to global markets for oil extracted from Kazakhstan's Tengiz and Karachaganak oil fields via Russia's Novorossiysk port on the Black Sea coast. Any problem in the operation of this line could seriously affect Kazakhstan's oil exports. At the same time, this license allows Russian companies such as Lukoil and Rosneft, which are on the US sanctions list, to conduct operations only for CPC projects related to the Karachaganak and Tengiz oil fields. The new license issued by OFAC now permits operations related only to CPC, Tengiz, and Karachaganak. This is a significant step for Kazakhstan's oil industry and will help ensure stability in the country's energy sector.
