During operational-investigative measures carried out by the State Security Service (SSS) to detect and prevent intelligence and sabotage activities by foreign special services directed against the national security of the Republic of Azerbaijan, grounds for reasonable suspicion have arisen that Fərzəliyev Siyyafət Heydər oğlu, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan born in 1969, has committed treason.
This was reported by the press service of the SSS.
Investigations have established that Siyyafət Fərzəliyev, a resident of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, while abroad, was recruited for covert cooperation by representatives of the special services of that country in exchange for financial gain. Upon his return to the country, acting on their instructions, he conducted video recordings of military and other strategically important facilities located in the Nakhchivan city and Shahbuz district and submitted them to representatives of the foreign special services.
Furthermore, during a search of the apartment where the aforementioned individual resided, individual parts of a "Kalashnikov" type assault rifle were discovered and seized.
Siyyafət Fərzəliyev has been held accountable under Articles 228.1 (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, carrying, or wearing of firearms, their complete parts, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices) and 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a measure of restraint in the form of detention has been imposed on him by court order.
Currently, investigative and operational measures are ongoing in the criminal case.
