Defense Agreement Signed Between Turkey and Nigeria

An official agreement on cooperation in the defense sector has been signed between Turkey and Nigeria. The agreement aims to expand military, security, and strategic cooperation between the two countries, prioritizing the joint fight against terrorism.

The editorial reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking on the occasion, stated that Turkey will always stand by Nigeria's friendly people in their fight against terrorism. The President emphasized that the parties have thoroughly evaluated opportunities for closer cooperation in the fields of military training and intelligence.

During his meeting with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Erdoğan also touched upon economic issues. He stated that during the negotiations, the goal of reaching an annual trade volume of 5 billion dollars between the two countries was reconfirmed, and the steps to be taken to achieve this goal were discussed.

It was noted that Nigeria is the largest oil and natural gas producer in Africa. This factor creates broad prospects for further deepening cooperation between the two countries in the energy, security, and economic sectors.
