Meta's text-based social network "Threads", launched in 2023, has for the first time surpassed X (formerly Twitter), managed by Elon Musk, in terms of daily mobile users. According to September data from the analytics company "Similarweb", the number of daily active users for "Threads" reached 130.2 million people, while "X" remained in second place with 130.1 million.

Valyuta.az reports that on September 20, "Threads" recorded 128.7 million daily users, while "X" had 127.1 million. In the same period of 2024, "Threads" had 81.1 million daily users, and X had 149.9 million. This means that while "Threads" is rapidly growing, X's figures are declining.

On iOS devices, "Threads" has surpassed its rival with 62.5 million daily users. However, in the US market, X still holds the advantage: X has 21.3 million users compared to "Threads'" 16.2 million users.

The growth of "Threads" opens up a new advertising market for Meta. According to analysts at Barclays Research, the platform could generate $2 billion in advertising revenue in 2026 and $9 billion in 2027.
X, on the other hand, has lost a significant portion of its advertisers during Musk's management. In 2023, the company's global advertising revenue decreased by 51.7% to $2 billion. Although a partial increase is expected from 2025, reaching the figures of previous years is not yet possible.

Advantages and Competition

The main advantage of "Threads" is its tight integration with "Instagram". Users can easily join "Threads" with their existing "Instagram" account, which facilitates rapid growth. Meta's powerful advertising targeting tools also make Threads more attractive to advertisers.
Musk, meanwhile, is trying to maintain X's user loyalty and strengthen the platform again in the advertising market.

The Wealth of Two Billionaires

Against the backdrop of this competition, Elon Musk, the world's richest person, has an estimated net worth of $481.9 billion. Mark Zuckerberg, with a net worth of $256.8 billion, is ranked third.
