A seminar titled “Development of the Textile Sector and Promotion of Global Integration” was held in Baku.
During the seminar, discussions were held on international cooperation, traceability, sustainability, and the expansion of export opportunities, and a tripartite action plan was signed.
A seminar titled “Development of the Textile Sector and Promotion of Global Integration” was jointly organized in Baku by the Azerbaijan Textile Association (ATA), the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), and the Export and Investment Promotion Agency – AZPROMO. Within the framework of the seminar, panel sessions were organized on topics such as traceability, tax incentives, certification, legislative proposals, and sustainability.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, Dr. Christian Schindler, Director General of ITMF, highlighted that Azerbaijan's textile industry is already recognized at a regional level and emphasized the importance of its representation in global markets. Tural Hajili, Deputy Executive Director of AZPROMO, noted that our country's strong raw material base, production capabilities, and export potential open new opportunities for the integration of the textile sector into the global value chain. Emin Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of “Azerkhalcha” OJSC, spoke about the work done to preserve carpet weaving traditions and align them with modern trends. Johannes Hiri, Chairman of the Board of “GP Cotton Holdings”, mentioned that Azerbaijan's geographical location and investment environment stimulate innovation and infrastructure development in the sector. Farida Akhundova, Executive Director of ATA, informed that ITMF currently brings together associations and leading companies from over 40 countries.
Within the framework of the seminar, a tripartite action plan aimed at the development and promotion of Azerbaijan's textile industry was signed between AZPROMO, ATA, and ITMF. This document envisages concrete steps towards the development of Azerbaijan's textile industry in accordance with international standards, knowledge exchange on sustainability and traceability, increasing export potential, and strengthening the competitiveness of local production. The Action Plan also serves as a roadmap aimed at expanding the possibilities of holding ITMF's annual conference in Azerbaijan in 2029 and defines the coordinated measures necessary to achieve this goal.
