Fishing Banned in Azerbaijan's Inland Waters Starting Tomorrow

Starting tomorrow, industrial fishing and harvesting of other aquatic bioresources will be prohibited in Azerbaijan's inland waters.

The Ministry of Agriculture released information regarding this.

According to the information, in accordance with the "Rules for Fishing and Harvesting Other Aquatic Bioresources" approved by the Cabinet of Ministers' decision dated June 2, 2017, industrial fishing and harvesting of other aquatic bioresources are prohibited from April 1 to September 1 in the Kura River, Lake Sarisu, and the Mingachevir, Shamkir, Araz, and Yenikand reservoirs due to the spawning period.

From September 1, individuals who have obtained a fishing license can continue industrial fishing and harvesting of other aquatic bioresources in the aforementioned inland water bodies under the conditions specified by the Rules.

According to legislation, obtaining a fishing license is not required for sport and amateur fishing, and it can be carried out within the conditions specified by the Rules.

Persons found guilty of violating the rules for fishing and harvesting other aquatic bioresources, including illegal fishing, shall be held responsible in accordance with the procedures stipulated in the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Criminal Code, respectively.
