Roblox: Takes New Steps to Enhance Children's Safety

Roblox, an online gaming platform, hosts games created by millions of users. The platform is implementing new measures to strengthen the protection of minors. These steps aim to ensure children's safety and prevent potential threats on the platform.

Redaksiya reports that Roblox announced on Tuesday that it will take steps to strengthen the protection of minors. The company plans to use AI-powered facial age estimation technology to verify players' ages. This system, combined with ID-based age verification and parental consent, aims to "provide a more accurate measure of user age than relying on information someone types when creating an account."

Roblox will initially begin implementing the age verification requirement in selected global markets such as Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands, and will expand the system to other countries by early January. Additionally, the company is creating a dedicated online safety hub to help families understand and set up the platform's parental controls. These enhanced protection measures coincide with dozens of families, as well as the attorneys general of Kentucky and Louisiana, accusing Roblox, Discord, and other technology companies of failing to prevent sexual predators from approaching children on their platforms. Florida is also investigating Roblox, with Attorney General James Utmeyer accusing the platform of failing to protect minors.

In September, Roblox stated that it planned to expand age verification for all users who wish to access communication features on the gaming platform. These measures aim to restrict communication between adults and minors if they do not know each other in the real world. These steps are important actions taken to enhance children's safety on the platform and prevent potential threats in the online environment.
