A criminal case involving Ramiz Mehdiyev, the head of the Presidential Administration, has become a major socio-political topic in the country.
Mehdiyev, once known as the "grey cardinal," is currently facing serious charges against the state. The process is not limited to him alone; family members and close relatives are also being drawn into the investigations.
This was reported in an article published on the website "haqqin.az." The article notes that customs general Telman Huseyngulu oglu Mehdiyev, who held high positions in state structures for many years and was implicated in countless corruption allegations, is also presented as his relative.
Although General Telman Mehdiyev is presented as Ramiz Mehdiyev's "relative," their family ties are not confirmed in open sources. In fact, according to some claims, Ramiz Mehdiyev spent his childhood in Nakhchivan with another family, and there is conflicting information about his biological relatives.
Telman Mehdiyev worked in high positions within the Azerbaijani customs system for many years. In 2021, he was awarded the rank of Major General of the Customs Service. Until 2022, he headed the Main Customs Department for Energy Resources and Maritime Transport of the State Customs Committee. This department is one of the bodies responsible for overseeing strategic cargo related to maritime transport and oil trade. According to allegations, in some cases, he initiated criminal cases against businessmen directly on instructions from Ramiz Mehdiyev and played a special role in mechanisms of pressure.
In early 2022, by order of Safar Mehdiyev, who was then the Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Telman Mehdiyev was dismissed from this position and appointed head of the Western Main Customs Department. That period was marked by growing scandals surrounding Ramiz Mehdiyev in the country, and public pressure that led to his resignation from the leadership of the Nizami Ganjavi National Literature Museum. The Western Customs is one of the most important structures controlling trade and transit flows at the Azerbaijan-Georgia border.
However, this position did not last long. After Safar Mehdiyev's dismissal, Telman Mehdiyev was also sent into retirement in January 2023 due to "retirement age." Experts interpreted this as the "unprotected" general being "silently removed" from the system.
Another notable claim in the media regarding Telman Mehdiyev is that he is the secret owner of the "EuroHome" shopping center. Although it was alleged that the general was behind this facility, which mysteriously burned down in 2020, he categorically denied this information in his statements.
In recent days, Telman Mehdiyev's name has resurfaced. It is said that his name is being mentioned in the list of individuals who may be arrested within the framework of the "Ramiz Mehdiyev case."
