A critical meeting between US, Danish, and Greenlandic officials concluded without an agreement. Following the unsuccessful talks, Denmark and several European countries announced the deployment of military units to Greenland.
According to DW News, European countries have deployed a total of 31 military personnel to Greenland immediately after the meeting. The report states that this step was taken against the backdrop of growing security concerns in the region.
According to the announced list, 15 soldiers were sent from France, 13 from Germany, 2 from Norway, and 1 from Great Britain to Greenland. The main objective of the deployed forces is reported to be observation and a demonstration of presence.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated in response to the issue that a possible military intervention by the US in Greenland would be a disaster for NATO. According to him, such a step could create a serious political and security crisis within the alliance.
