Prime Cotton produced 60/1 and 80/1 yarn from Pima cotton for the first time in Azerbaijan – a new stage in the textile industry!
Prime Cotton LLC, one of the leading companies in cotton growing and textiles in our country, has achieved another innovation by successfully producing 60/1 and 80/1 sized yarn from Pima cotton lint for the first time in Azerbaijan. The company achieved this success as a result of long-term planned activities.
Prime Cotton, which started cultivating Pima cotton in the country four years ago, planted this high-quality variety on a 17-hectare area last season, directing the harvested product to yarn production at the Mingachevir Textile Factory. The produced yarn products attract attention with both their fine structure and light texture.
It should be noted that as the first number in yarn counts increases, the product becomes thinner. For example, 80/1 yarn is finer and softer compared to 60/1. Such yarns are mainly used in luxury textile products, including high-quality bedding sets and fine fabric garments.
Among the produced yarns, the 60/1 count has already started to be applied in the market in the initial stage. GiLTEX, a company operating within GP Cotton Holding alongside Prime Cotton, has woven fabric from this very yarn and launched a new premium home textile brand called Luma Home Textile. The products of this brand have attracted the attention of buyers with their comfort and aesthetic appearance and have quickly gained high market appreciation.
Pima cotton cultivated by Prime Cotton holds a distinguished position among world cotton varieties in terms of fiber length and elasticity. Due to its characteristics, this variety is compared to Egypt's Giza cotton, a renowned raw material in the international textile industry.
The fibers of both types are long and fine, which gives the yarn and the fabric made from it both luster, softness, and strength. For this reason, Pima cotton is widely used in the luxury textile segment.
Regarding the topic, Rovshan Mahmudov, CEO of Prime Cotton LLC, stated:
"The cultivation of the Pima variety in Azerbaijan and the production of high-quality yarn and fabric from it is of strategic importance in terms of further strengthening our company's value chain, which combines agriculture and the textile industry. The results we have achieved show that the yarns we produce from Pima lint are currently sold on the market at up to three times higher prices. This means not only quality for Prime Cotton but also high added value and profitability."
As for future plans, the company aims to increase the cultivation area of the Pima variety to 300 hectares in 2025 and to 3,000 hectares by 2028. The goal is to spread this rare and high-quality cotton variety more widely within the country and turn it into a strategically important local raw material source for the industry.
To further enhance quality, Prime Cotton also benefits from the experience of professional textile specialists invited from Pakistan. It is known that Pakistan has rich experience in this field as one of the world's leading cotton producers and textile exporters.
These specialists, together with Prime Cotton's local staff, are actively engaged in improving production processes, implementing technological innovations, and conducting professional development training.
This cooperation is of strategic importance in terms of adapting local production to international standards, expanding export potential, and positioning Azerbaijani textiles competitively in the global market.
