The possibility of the Nobel Peace Prize winner's name, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, being leaked before the official announcement is under investigation in Norway. The issue arose after a massive increase in bets on Machado on the “Polymarket” platform several hours before the Nobel laureates were revealed.
The editorial office reports that Kristian Berg Harpviken, director of the Nobel Institute, stated that the most probable explanation for the situation could be cyber espionage. According to him, the precise leakage of unannounced information into the market is not considered a coincidence.
The Norwegian National Security Authority has launched an official investigation into the incident. Previously, during the presentation of the Nobel Prizes in 2021, the official websites of the laureates in Oslo and Stockholm were subjected to cyberattacks. Investigations into the current process are ongoing.
