The traditional AZLİNG2025: Azerbaijani Language and Modern Linguistics: Problems, Perspectives, and Challenges international scientific conference was held at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Neftchala district. The aforementioned conference is organized through the initiative of Neftchala linguist-scholars, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and organized by the “Regional Development” Public Union and the Heydar Aliyev Center of Neftchala district.
The AZLİNG series of conferences are held in accordance with the spirit of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated November 1, 2018, “On Measures to Protect the Purity of the Azerbaijani Language and Further Improve the Use of the State Language”. This year's conference was dedicated to the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty”. Nearly one hundred scholars and young researchers participated in the conference. At the AZLİNG2025 conference, current problems of the Azerbaijani language were discussed against the backdrop of the development of modern world linguistic science. Along with renowned Azerbaijani linguist-scholars, young researchers also participated in the conference.
Before the conference, participants visited the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, erected in front of the Neftchala Heydar Aliyev Center, and laid fresh flowers. Later, conference participants familiarized themselves with the Exhibition of Azerbaijani Linguistic Achievements, organized within the framework of the conference. Books reflecting the latest achievements in Azerbaijani linguistics were displayed at the exhibition. The exhibition will continue for one week.
Opening the conference with an introductory speech, Konul Mammadova, Director of the Heydar Aliyev Center of Neftchala district, quoted President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the importance of preserving the purity of the Azerbaijani language during the 80th anniversary of AMEA, stating that language is closely linked to the fate of the people, their identity, and morality. In the opening session of the conference, Mirhasan Seyidov, Head of the Neftchala District Executive Power; Gulbaghda Leysanova, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the “Regional Development” Public Union; Elchin Babayev, Rector of Baku State University; Ghazanfar Pashayev, Chief Researcher of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of AMEA and Honored Scientist; Raziya Isayeva, Rector of Khazar University; and Araz Alizadeh, Head of the Shirvan-Salyan Regional Culture Department, participated as honorary guests and spoke about the importance of today's conference, emphasizing that preserving our native language in our globalizing world is one of the most crucial tasks before us. The Azerbaijani language policy implemented by National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev is successfully continued today by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The relevant decisions adopted and theses put forward regarding our native language were once again emphasized by the speakers.
Then, one of the initiators of the conference, Associate Professor of the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of AMEA, Doctor of Philological Sciences Qudsiya Gambarova, presented the linguistic collection published based on the materials of the scientific conference titled “AZLİNG2024-Azerbaijani Language and Modern Linguistics: Problems, Perspectives, and Challenges,” evaluating the book as a valuable contribution to Azerbaijani linguistics and a continuation of successful scientific research.
The event then continued under the moderation of Agshin Aliyev, representative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in China, Head of the Azerbaijani Language Department at Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Doctor of Philosophy in Philology. After Agshin Aliyev presented a five-year report on the AZLİNG conferences, the “Young Linguists” forum of the conference began. In the “Young Linguists” forum, Elnara Aliyeva, leading researcher at the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of AMEA, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, and Associate Professor; Ramil Bayramov, senior lecturer at Azerbaijan University of Languages and Baku State University, and Doctor of Philosophy in Philology; and Simnar Alizadeh, doctoral student at Baku State University, delivered speeches, sharing their views with the audience on the impact of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's language policy on the modern Azerbaijani language, the latest achievements in Azerbaijani linguistics, and the reforms implemented to preserve the purity of our language. The forum then continued its work in a discussion format.
The conference continued with section meetings. Nearly 100 scholars and young researchers, representing various higher education and scientific institutions of Azerbaijan, as well as different universities around the world, presented their latest research on current linguistic topics.
Finally, certificates were presented to the participants, and it was decided to compile a commemorative journal comprising the conference materials and to hold the “AZLİNG2025” conference next year. It should be noted that the conference materials will be published as a collection.
