Ancient forest remains have emerged on the shores of Lankaran as a result of the decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea. In recent years, a retreat of the water has been observed due to decreased precipitation, increased evaporation, and weakening river flows.
The editorial office, citing AZERTAC, reports that large tree roots and ancient forest remains, which had been submerged under the water on the shore, are attracting attention. Ecologists mainly attribute this to the intensive evaporation caused by global warming.
According to the information, the tree remains found in the area are 200–300 years old, indicating the former existence of extensive oak forests on the shores of Lankaran. The fact that the ancient root and trunk remains have not been fully exposed to biological erosion proves their good preservation. Experts state that the findings are of great importance both for the region's ecological-historical heritage and for the restoration of coastal ecosystems.
