The U.S. Congress has stated that the attacks carried out against ships in the Caribbean Sea related to drug trafficking linked to Venezuela during Donald Trump's term were within the framework of the 1973 War Powers Resolution. This law requires the U.S. president to obtain authorization from Congress for military operations lasting longer than 60 days.

Redaksiya reports that members of Congress are investigating whether military operations during Trump's term complied with the requirements of the War Powers Resolution. This resolution grants the president the authority to use military force, but at the same time, it ensures that Congress maintains oversight of such operations.

The War Powers Resolution mandates that the U.S. president cooperates with Congress for military operations in foreign countries. This law requires the president to inform Congress within 60 days of initiating military operations and for Congress to approve or terminate these operations. Congress is conducting investigations to determine whether the events during Trump's term complied with this law. These investigations bring back into focus the role of Congress in U.S. foreign policy and the president's military powers.
