In the presidential election held in Ireland, left-leaning independent candidate Catherine Connolly won by securing 63 percent of the votes. Her main rival, former UFC champion and world-renowned fighter Conor McGregor, had withdrawn his candidacy some time ago and did not participate in the election race.
The editorial office reports that McGregor's withdrawal of his candidacy was explained by his desire to focus on his sports career and personal projects. Nevertheless, his name remained one of the main topics of public discussion throughout the election campaign.
Catherine Connolly, on the other hand, gained the trust of voters with her calls for social justice, gender equality, and climate policy. In her speech, the new president declared strengthening national solidarity and social justice as her main priorities.
