Google has announced that users' existing account information will be fully protected when they change their primary @gmail.com address. According to the company, this new feature will not have any negative impact on users' digital history and active services.
The editorial team reports that when the primary email address is changed, all emails, Google Drive files, photos, messages, calendar invitations, and purchase history remain unchanged. The old Gmail address automatically receives alias status, and emails sent to that address continue to arrive in the same inbox.
According to the announcement, access to all Google services, including YouTube, Google Maps, and Google Play, is possible with both the old and new addresses. Third-party integrations and subscriptions also remain active without requiring additional migration, as the technical basis of the account does not change.
The company has also disclosed some limitations. Users can change their Gmail address only once every twelve months, and a maximum of three changes are allowed per account in total. The feature is currently only valid for individual @gmail.com accounts and does not apply to work and education accounts managed through Google Workspace. It is noted that the feature is being rolled out in stages to different regions.
