Next year, health requirements and guidelines have been determined for pilgrims traveling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The editorial office, citing the Caucasus Muslim Board (CMB), reports that this document was prepared by the health authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to determine the health requirements and preventive measures applied to pilgrims arriving in the country for Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.
The health requirements and guidelines reflected in the document are as follows:
General health requirements
Special attention is paid to the health and safety of pilgrims and visitors. Accordingly, travel is not recommended for individuals suffering from infectious diseases or conditions that pose a threat to public health.
Individuals with the following conditions should refrain from going to Hajj:
Chronic heart, kidney, or lung diseases;
Chronic diseases of the central nervous system (e.g., conditions arising after a stroke);
Diabetes, immunodeficiency, or diseases that reduce body resistance;
Pregnant women;
Children and elderly people;
Individuals undergoing chemotherapy or cancer patients.
Measures against infectious diseases
A COVID-19 vaccine may be required for pilgrims wishing to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The vaccine must be one of those approved in Saudi Arabia.
The vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before travel, but not more than 12 months prior.
Based on the epidemiological situation, Saudi Arabia may impose additional requirements.
Mandatory vaccinations
a) Meningitis (Meningococcal infection – ACWY)
This is a mandatory vaccine for all pilgrims.
The quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine (ACWY) is required.
The vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before arriving in Saudi Arabia, but not more than 3 years prior.
An international certificate of vaccination must be presented.
b) Other vaccines (recommended)
Seasonal flu (influenza) vaccine;
Yellow fever and polio vaccines - only apply to pilgrims coming from countries where these diseases are present.
Entry and health control measures
Pilgrims arriving in Saudi Arabia may undergo medical examinations at border crossing points.
Health documents and vaccination certificates will be checked.
If necessary, additional medical measures and preventive surveillance may be applied.
General health recommendations
Strictly adhere to food safety and personal hygiene.
During the pilgrimage, adhere to a regimen of water intake, heat protection, and rest.
Listen to the instructions of group leaders and healthcare workers.
To protect against infectious diseases, it is recommended to use a medical mask in crowded places.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of illness.
Additional notes
Saudi Arabian health authorities may decide on additional requirements and vaccinations in the future, taking into account the international situation.
These decisions may be updated based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).
