Ali Karimli, the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who was detained by the State Security Service, has been arrested.
“Qafqazinfo” reports that the Sabail District Court announced its decision moments ago.
The petition was deemed justified considering the suspect's potential to evade investigation and influence witnesses.
According to the decision, a pre-trial detention measure of 2 months and 13 days has been imposed on Ali Karimli. He was taken directly from the court to the investigation detention center of the State Security Service.
It should be noted that Ali Karimli is accused under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code (actions aimed at seizing power by force, forcibly changing the constitutional order of the state). He was involved in the investigation of the criminal case of Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of the Presidential Administration. Mehdiyev himself has been placed under house arrest for crimes such as seizing power by force, forcibly changing the constitutional order of the state, and treason.
