Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, met with Adam Stewart, President of the Utah Senate, during his visit to the United States of America.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan-US relations have entered a qualitatively new stage. Confidence was expressed that the Joint Declaration signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, the US, and Armenia in Washington on August 8 this year is a historic turning point in the peace process and will also play an important role in strengthening interfaith harmony, tolerance, and traditions of coexistence.
Chairman of the State Committee Ramin Mammadov stated that the development of a tolerant environment in Azerbaijan is one of the priority directions of state policy. This policy is based on the goal of protecting national-moral values and ensuring that people of different religions live together in peace. Ramin Mammadov noted that under the leadership of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a society model based on religious tolerance, multiculturalism, and mutual respect principles has been formed in our country. He emphasized that the state has created comprehensive conditions for all confessions, including Christian religious communities, to operate freely and safely in Azerbaijan. A clear example of this is the official registration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Azerbaijan, which is a practical manifestation of the state's commitment to the principle of interfaith tolerance and equal treatment. The Committee Chairman emphasized the importance of mutual contacts that will contribute to the development of Azerbaijan-US relations and invited the President of the Senate to visit Azerbaijan.
Adam Stewart, who gratefully accepted the invitation to visit, emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation and stated that the multicultural values and interfaith harmony in Azerbaijan are commendable. He noted that Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has made significant contributions to the preservation of an environment of tolerance and interfaith solidarity. He stressed that he highly appreciates the policy implemented in Azerbaijani society aimed at preserving religious tolerance and cultural diversity.
Senators Kirk Cullimore and Mike McKell of the State of Utah also participated in the meeting, where views were exchanged on the prospects for cooperation in the field of dialogue between religions and cultures between Azerbaijan and the US.
