Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, has applied to the U.S. side for permission to visit Washington next Tuesday. It is reported that a possible visit to the White House is also being considered within the framework of the trip.
The editorial reports, citing ABC Internacional, that the application is currently in the initial review phase and requires a temporary exemption decision regarding the sanctions imposed by the U.S. Treasury for its realization. Delcy Rodríguez has been included in the sanctions list for human rights violations.
According to the information, the timing of the aforementioned request coincides with the planned visit of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado to Washington next week. This timing increases the likelihood of intensified political discussions regarding Venezuela in the U.S. capital.
It is noted that whether the possible visit will take place will depend on decisions made within the framework of security, legal procedures, and the sanctions regime. The U.S. side has not yet announced its final position on the matter.
