Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has outlined his position following meetings with US officials concerning Greenland and Arctic security. The minister stated that disagreements persist between the parties, but continuing the dialogue and seeking a common approach are considered priorities.
The editorial reports that Lars Løkke Rasmussen met with JD Vance and Marco Rubio in the US, and this visit took place after notable public statements were made regarding Greenland. According to him, even if the parties do not agree, they have decided to agree to disagree and to establish a high-level working group.
The minister emphasized that the Kingdom of Denmark has already increased its military contributions and allocated additional financial resources. He noted that the discussion is not about symbolic measures, but about real military capabilities such as ships, drones, and combat aircraft, and that Copenhagen is prepared to do more. Rasmussen recalled that Greenland has been a NATO member since nineteen forty-nine and is protected by Article Five of the alliance.
Rasmussen also acknowledged the formation of a new security situation in the Arctic and stated that they partially share US President Donald Trump's concerns on this matter. However, he said that the narrative about Chinese warships around Greenland is not true, and according to intelligence data, no such incidents have been recorded in the last decade. The minister stressed that Greenland will remain part of the Kingdom of Denmark in the near and distant future and noted the importance of continuing close alliance relations with the US.
