Belgium to recognize Palestinian state at UN General Assembly

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot announced that his country will recognize the Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly this month.

The editorial board reports that Minister Prévot emphasized in his speech that this decision is an indicator of Brussels' support for establishing a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. According to him, Belgium's position is aimed at promoting the implementation of a two-state solution.

The diplomat added that this step is being taken in accordance with international law and UN resolutions. Prévot also expressed hope that other European countries will demonstrate a similar stance and contribute to the recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people.
