President Ilham Aliyev, in his speech while receiving the wrestlers who became champions in the team standings at the European Championship, emphasized that the raising of the Azerbaijani flag in international arenas is a great source of pride and joy for every citizen. According to him, the victories achieved by our athletes are not merely personal achievements but events that turn into nationwide joy. Each time our tricolor flag is raised to the top and our anthem is played, it further strengthens the spirit of unity and solidarity of the Azerbaijani people and enhances their national pride.
The head of state noted that such successes in sports have a significant impact on the formation of the younger generation in a patriotic spirit. Young people, seeing the successes of our athletes, take them as an example and strive to be more purposeful and disciplined in their own lives. This, in turn, plays an important role in the formation of a healthy society. The President stated that sport in Azerbaijan is no longer just a physical activity but has become an integral and strategically important area of public life. The achievements in this direction in recent years, the infrastructure created, and the successes gained at the international level once again confirm that the state policy has been correctly established.
Touching upon his thoughts on the activities of the Wrestling Federation, the President noted that the representation of renowned athletes and Olympic Games champions who once achieved great successes in these organizations is of particular importance. According to him, the inclusion of these experienced athletes in the leadership and coaching staff plays a crucial role in nurturing the younger generation. The President recalled that he once followed the competitions of many individuals who now work as coaches, both in competitions held in Baku and at the Olympic Games, with great interest and attention, cheering them on. Now, the successes of the new generation of wrestlers nurtured by these athletes bring joy to our country, demonstrating the successful continuation of succession in sports.
The head of state emphasized that even as generations change, the traditions of the Azerbaijani wrestling school are preserved and further developed. The successes achieved in this field are not accidental but the result of systematic work carried out over many years. Wrestling in Azerbaijan is not only a sport but also cherished as a national value and passed on to future generations. The President noted that thanks to the preservation and development of these traditions, Azerbaijani sports always demonstrate high results and conquer new heights in the international arena.
In addition, the President drew attention to the fact that one of the main tasks facing the federation is the identification of talented young people in the regions and the creation of conditions for their development. He stated that modern Olympic Sports Complexes operate in almost all regions of the country, and at the same time, wrestling halls have been established, which opens up wide opportunities for ensuring the mass participation in sports. This infrastructure must be used effectively, selection work should be further strengthened, and promising young people should be identified in a timely manner and involved in professional training.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence that as a result of the purposeful measures implemented, Azerbaijani wrestling will continue its successes and will always keep our country's name at the top in international competitions.
