“Mine clearance in the liberated territories is a priority issue”

“Large-scale restoration and reconstruction works continue in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan within the framework of the "Great Return" program. The measures implemented here are primarily aimed at ensuring the security of these lands and creating the necessary conditions for people to return to their native homes. The widespread mining of vast areas during the occupation period is one of the most serious obstacles facing this process.”

These words were stated by Member of Parliament Konul Nurullayeva in a statement to SIA.
According to her, the mine threat is not only a threat to the restoration of infrastructure but also a direct threat to human lives:

“Therefore, mine clearance in the liberated territories has been identified as a priority issue. Extensive operations are being carried out in this area, involving special equipment, modern technologies, and professional specialists. The areas are inspected in stages, and mines and unexploded ordnance are neutralized.

However, Armenia has not yet provided accurate mine maps. The lack of precise information complicates the work and requires additional time.

Regrettably, we must note that since the 2020 Patriotic War, 419 Azerbaijani citizens have become mine victims as a result of mines laid by Armenia. During this period, 72 people died, and 347 were seriously injured. Since the beginning of the conflict, the total number of mine victims exceeds 3400.

In general, mine clearance is a mission that requires high risk and dedication. It is no coincidence that a Presidential scholarship was established for the families of those who died during mine clearance, which once again demonstrates that the human factor is a priority in the state's social policy. This should be regarded as both material and moral support.
Parallel to mine clearance efforts, large-scale construction and restoration projects are being implemented in the liberated territories. Destroyed cities and villages are being rebuilt, roads, bridges, electricity and water lines are being laid, and modern communication systems are being created. Projects implemented based on "Smart Village" and "Smart City" concepts serve the sustainable development of the region. Schools, hospitals, and cultural centers are being built, creating comprehensive opportunities for people to return to normal living conditions.
The mine clearance and restoration measures carried out in the liberated lands are of great importance for ensuring a safe, dignified, and sustainable life for people.”
