A new pathogen carried by bats has been discovered in flying foxes living in Australia.

The editorial office reports that "The Telegraph" newspaper wrote about this.

"A new pathogen called Solt-Galli virus, carried by bats, has been discovered in flying foxes in Australia," the report states.

The discovered pathogen is related to Nipah and Hendra, which the World Health Organization (WHO) classifies as "priority pathogens."

According to the publication, there is no information that the new virus can infect humans. However, researchers at the Australian National Science Agency cannot precisely say how the situation will develop in the future and whether its spread will lead to the spread of diseases.

"We discovered the Solt Galli virus dating back to 2011 in bat samples. This indicates that it has been circulating in the wild for over a decade. Therefore, we cannot predict whether it will cause epidemics in humans or animals in the future," said Jennifer Barr, an expert at Australia's Centre for Disease Preparedness.

However, she noted that specialists currently have the opportunity to develop diagnostic tests that will help detect the virus at an early stage and prevent its spread.
