Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) is launching intra-regional passenger transportation for the first time to further enhance passenger satisfaction and ensure transport accessibility, especially in the regions.
The editorial office, citing ADY, reports that on the eve of the 145th anniversary of the establishment of railways in Azerbaijan, starting from September 28, modern electric trains will serve passengers twice a day on the Ganja–Mingachevir–Agstafa route.
According to the schedule, the train will depart from Ganja daily at 05:45, arriving at Mingachevir city station at 06:57. It will then depart from Mingachevir at 07:15 towards Ganja–Agstafa, reaching Ganja at 08:26 and Agstafa at 09:48. In the second half of the day, services will start from Agstafa at 16:00, with the train arriving in Ganja at 17:19 and Mingachevir city station at 18:36. The train departing from Mingachevir at 19:00 will arrive in Ganja at 20:11.
Passengers will be able to use Mingachevir, Mingachevir-bash, Goran, Ganja, Dallar, Govlar, Tovuz, and Agstafa stations.
Travel options will be offered in standard, standard+ business, and first classes on the trains. The minimum ticket price for the Ganja–Mingachevir route will be 2.60 AZN, and for the Mingachevir–Agstafa route, it will be 6.80 AZN. Passengers will also be able to use free "Wi-Fi" service during their journey.
Tickets can be purchased starting from September 25 via ADY's official website and the "ADY Mobile" application.
ADY has carried out reconstruction work on the railways in the Mingachevir area to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of trains. Additionally, repair work has been carried out in the building of the Mingachevir city station, and the waiting hall has been renovated.
A significant increase in passenger transportation is expected as a result of the launch of the Ganja–Mingachevir–Agstafa route. According to initial estimates, approximately 100,000 passengers will be transported annually on this route.
The opening of the Ganja–Mingachevir–Agstafa route will ensure transport mobility for people traveling in these directions, living in the cities of Mingachevir and Ganja, the districts of Tovuz and Agstafa, and the settlements of Goran, Dallar, and Govlar. It will also serve to provide more comfortable, safe, and affordable travel for the population of Mingachevir. Overall, the opening of the new route will support the socio-economic development of the mentioned regions, as well as the balanced development of the capital and regions in accordance with the "Socio-Economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022–2026", and will create conditions for further increasing the tourism potential of Mingachevir city.
It should be noted that Ganja, Tovuz, and Agstafa can traditionally be reached daily in both directions via the Baku–Gazakh–Baku route, and also with additional services on the Baku–Agstafa–Baku route every weekday.
ADY aims to make all regions of Azerbaijan more accessible for passengers and expand its service geography. To this end, it applies modern approaches to continuously improve passenger transportation services. In 2023, the Baku–Gabala–Baku route was launched for the first time. In 2024, with the introduction of new trains, services on the Baku–Agstafa–Baku route were increased, and stops were added at Laki and Ujar stations. Free "Wi-Fi" service was activated on trains operating on inter-district routes and at several stations and stops. In early 2025, passenger transportation on the Baku–Balakan–Baku route was restored. On June 15, the Baku–Agstafa–Baku route was extended to Gazakh, and on August 30, the Baku–Aghdam–Baku line was opened. The organization of services from Baku to Aghdam will increase the accessibility of public transport in the Karabakh economic region and enable the socio-economic revival of Aghdam and surrounding districts.
