The Audiovisual Council has warned "Space TV" regarding the broadcast of a wedding celebration related to a consanguineous marriage held in one of the regions, shown in the "Banu" program.
The Council released information about this.
It was noted that the aforementioned footage was broadcast on the channel on October 8th of this year, between 22:06 and 23:09.
That particular episode of the program was evaluated through the prism of relevant amendments to the Family Code, which came into force on July 1st of the current year, prohibiting marriages between relatives. Currently, according to Article 12.0.2-1 of the Family Code, marriage between children who share a common biological grandfather and/or grandmother (i.e., children of siblings) is not permitted.
The Council sent an inquiry to the channel, and according to the official response provided, the wedding celebration shown in the segment took place long before the legislative changes came into force (the official marriage was registered on March 6, 2025). However, the wedding celebration, filmed several months ago, was broadcast in October due to a technical error by the television channel's specialists.
It was stated that, taking into account the admission of the violation in the response to the inquiry sent to the broadcaster and the necessary measures taken regarding the employee responsible for the error, the members of the Audiovisual Council agreed to only issue a warning to "Space TV" channel.
