Taara: High-Speed Internet with Light Beams

Taara, a light-based internet provider emerging from Alphabet's "moonshot" incubator, has introduced Taara Beam to provide 25 Gbps connections in cities using invisible light beams. This is achieved within line-of-sight.

Unlike last year's Taara Lightbridge, this device connects communities separated by water and mountains up to 20 km away, as reported by Redaksiya. The Beam, a small box-sized device, can be installed on streetlights and rooftops to provide connectivity up to 10 km within a city. Weighing 8 kg, the device typically consumes about 90W of power.

Taara's main advantage is its speed. It competes with fiber optic cables in terms of throughput and can be deployed quickly. This is particularly useful in areas where installing fiber optic cables is difficult or expensive.

Taara Beam offers an ideal solution for various applications requiring high-speed internet in urban areas, such as mobile operators, businesses, and home users. This technology can also play a significant role in regions with a lack of internet connectivity.
