The increasing interest of companies in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is largely resulting in the construction of large data centers. These centers, in turn, have significant impacts on local communities. These impacts cover various areas, from the environment to energy supply.
As Redaksiya reports, a clear example of such changes is observed in North Louisiana, where one of "Meta's" largest data centers is being built. Donna Collins lives approximately 20 miles from this center, in a home where her family has resided for five generations.
Collins describes this area as "a little piece of heaven." She states, "This is the only place I know as home. It's quiet, it's rural, and it's beautiful. It's hard to imagine future changes." This region has been particularly hard-hit during a recent cold snap that left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity.
