Starlink “Pause” Function: How to Use It and Which Packages Support It?

Everyone is probably aware of Starlink, the internet provider owned by American businessman Elon Musk, which also operates in Azerbaijan. The “Pause” (temporary service suspension) function offered by the provider to users works reliably and seamlessly only with Starlink ROAM packages. This function allows you to suspend the service without completely canceling it and reactivate it at any time you wish.

The editorial office reports that this often confuses people, but the system does not work on a “pay as you use” principle. A full monthly payment is charged every time the service is activated. For example, if you activate the service on a package costing 90 AZN per month, the full payment for that month is applied on the day of activation. Even if you suspend the service a few days later, the cost for that month is not refunded. During the period the service is suspended, no payment is charged for subsequent months, but when reactivated, a new month begins, and the payment is recalculated.

The advantage of the Pause function is that you suspend the service without completely canceling it, and no additional registration, waiting, or address verification is required to reconnect later. In other words, you don't lose your spot ("spot") on the map.

The downside is that even if only a part of the month is used for short-term usage, a full payment is applied for that month. In other words, the “pay for what I use” approach will not work here.

Which packages work with “Pause”?

Package Name“Pause” SupportNote
Starlink ROAM✅ Full supportSuspend the service and reactivate it when needed. Each activation means a new monthly payment.
Starlink Residential (For Home)❌ No supportTo suspend, the service must be completely canceled. After cancellation, if there is no spot available in the region, it might not be possible to reconnect.
Starlink Business / Mobility / Maritime⚠️ Possible, but with conditionsContract, minimum payment, and additional terms apply.

Conclusion

  • The most suitable option for occasional users: Starlink ROAM.
  • The system “activate monthly, use for 2 days, save the remaining money, then continue” is not available.
  • Each activation = new monthly payment.
  • Pause is only for not completely losing the service and for easy reconnection later.
