Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza: Need for Shelter and Winter Clothing

The humanitarian aid needs of people living in Gaza, especially regarding shelter and winter clothing, are attracting the attention of the international community. Partners of the United Nations (UN) in the region continue their efforts to meet the extensive shelter needs of displaced families living in unsafe conditions. However, difficulties in providing basic necessities, including tents, beds, mattresses, blankets, and winter clothing, still persist.

According to Redaksiya, a UN spokesperson stated that partners in the region worked last week to improve access to dignified shelters for approximately 1.3 million people in Gaza. Around 3,500 families affected by the storm are living in flood-prone areas. Amidst these difficult circumstances, UN humanitarian operations are ongoing, but meeting basic needs remains a serious problem.

Despite a ceasefire in the last 24 hours, reports indicate that airstrikes, bombings, and armed clashes continue in five regions of Gaza. This situation leads to loss of life and disruption of humanitarian aid operations. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric reiterated at a daily press briefing the call for the removal of all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, including shelter materials.

Dujarric highlighted the winter conditions, noting that 630,000 people in Gaza still need winter clothing assistance. This demonstrates how critical the humanitarian situation in the region is. The UN and its partners are increasing their efforts to meet the basic needs of the population, but the delivery of aid and ensuring safety remain significant challenges.
