Nominations for the William T. Pecora Award will be accepted until May 29, 2026.

Redaksiya reports that this award is presented annually to individuals or teams who have utilized satellite or airborne remote sensing technologies to improve understanding of Earth (land, oceans, and atmosphere), educate future generations, inform decision-makers, or support disaster response efforts resulting from natural or human activities. National and international nominations are accepted.

The award is jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). It was established in 1974 in memory of Dr. William T. Pecora, former Director of the U.S. Geological Survey and Under Secretary of the Interior. Dr. Pecora played a crucial role in the creation of the civilian remote sensing program for Earth. His early vision and support laid the groundwork for the Landsat satellite program as we know it today.

Detailed information regarding the nomination acceptance for the 2026 award, including requirements and the nomination process, can be found on the William T. Pecora Awards website.
