California Governor Gavin Newsom's speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos was marked by his critical stance on European leaders' reaction to US President Donald Trump's intention to acquire Greenland. This is evidenced by information reflected in a video broadcast by "Sky News" television channel.
According to Redaksiya, Newsom believes the European leaders' position on this issue is "disgraceful." He emphasized that European leaders should be more decisive against Trump's policies, noting that they are in the role of "players" in this situation. Newsom criticized Trump's behavior in global politics, stating that he views people as "fools" and that this is shameful.
In addition to criticizing the US president's desire to acquire Greenland and the European leaders' reaction to it, Newsom also called the act of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado from Venezuela giving her award to Trump "pathetic." He stressed that such behavior looks "pathetic" on the world stage and highlighted the importance of people being more serious and decisive. Newsom urged European leaders to take a more principled stance against Trump's policies and to "not cooperate" with him. He emphasized that such behavior from leaders is unacceptable and that they need to be "tough."
Furthermore, Trump's dissatisfaction with European leaders not agreeing to his desire to acquire Greenland did not go unnoticed. The US president expressed his displeasure with the European leaders' position on this matter. As a result, it is reported that Trump intends to impose a 10% tariff on all goods imported from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland starting February 1st. These tariffs are planned to be increased to 25% starting June 1st.
