The latest measures implemented by Norway to support Ukraine are aimed at strengthening the country's defense capabilities and ensuring energy security. These steps are part of Norway's ongoing support for Ukraine, with the goal of influencing the course of the war and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
Redaksiya reports that Norway considers the provision of air defense systems to Ukraine a priority. According to the press service of the Norwegian government, Minister of Defense Tore O. Sandvik held his first meeting with the newly appointed Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov, where it was emphasized that air defense is a priority in Norway's military support to Ukraine. Within this framework, Norway has sent "a considerable number" of air defense missiles to Ukraine.
In addition, Norway has allocated $400 million to Ukraine's energy sector and budget support. Of this amount, $200 million will be directed towards gas purchases and other urgent energy conservation issues. The purpose of this aid is to ensure "the supply of heating and electricity for as long as possible." Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba noted that in December, the Norwegian parliament allocated $8.3 billion for support to Ukraine for 2026, maintaining the level of aid from the previous year. Over the past two years, Norway has provided Ukraine with $17 billion in aid. Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Bart Eide, during his visit to Kyiv, stated that Norway strongly supports firm security guarantees to be provided immediately after a ceasefire comes into effect.
Norway, in cooperation with the US and other countries, has rapidly supplied Ukraine with air defense missiles at a critical juncture, enabling the NASAMS system to protect Ukrainian citizens from deadly aerial attacks. The Prime Minister stated that under the "Nansen" program, 85 billion Norwegian kroner have been allocated for civilian and military support to Ukraine in 2026. He added that Norway will continue to support Ukraine in its struggle. The high effectiveness of the NASAMS system against Russian missiles has been proven. Norway, as the owner of this system, has supplied a considerable number of anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine. Foreign Minister Espen Bart Eide noted that "Ukrainians are subjected to missile and drone attacks almost every night."
