On March 5, 2026, an event was held at the Neftchala Olympic Sports Complex to mark March 5 Physical Culture and Sports Day, jointly organized by the Neftchala District Executive Power and the youth and sports sector for the Neftchala district of the Shirvan-Salyan Regional Youth and Sports Department.
The event was attended by the Head of the Neftchala District Executive Power, Mirhasan Seyidov, responsible officials of the District Executive Power, heads of the New Azerbaijan Party Neftchala District Organization, law enforcement agencies, the youth and sports sector of Neftchala district, as well as the education sector, athletes, and coach-teachers.
First, the event participants visited the majestic monument of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev erected in Neftchala city, laid bouquets of flowers before it, and respectfully commemorated his dear memory.
Then, at the Neftchala Olympic Sports Complex, exemplary performances by teenagers and youth in various sports were showcased, and the work done to promote a healthy lifestyle and effectively organize their leisure time was presented.
At the event dedicated to March 5 Physical Culture and Sports Day, the dear memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the servicemen who were martyred while defending the territorial integrity, independence, and constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as deceased athletes, was commemorated with a minute of silence, and the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
Speaking at the event, the Head of the Neftchala District Executive Power, Mirhasan Seyidov, stated that the development of physical culture and sports in Azerbaijan is one of the priority directions of state policy, the foundation of which was laid by national leader Heydar Aliyev, and this policy is successfully continued today by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. Under the President's leadership, large-scale reforms are being implemented in the country for the development of sports, modern sports infrastructure is being created, international competitions are being hosted, and Azerbaijani athletes are achieving great successes on a global scale. As a result of the head of state's attention to sports, sports have become not only a physical activity but also an important component of national prestige and state policy.
The speech emphasized that social and humanitarian projects implemented on the initiative of the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva, programs aimed at youth development, and support for sports events contribute significantly to the further expansion of this field and serve to raise a healthy and active young generation.
The district head noted that the modern sports infrastructure created in the regions is a successful result of state policy. In this regard, the construction of the Neftchala Olympic Sports Complex marked the beginning of a new stage in the district's sports life. It was stated that the complex plays an important role in involving the district's youth in sports, shaping their healthy lifestyle, and training professional athletes, and is effectively used by athletes. Engaging youth in sports not only strengthens their physical fitness but also contributes to the formation of patriotism, discipline, and a sense of responsibility. In this regard, increasing the mass participation in sports in the district, expanding training sessions in schools and sports facilities, identifying talented athletes, and supporting them are constantly kept in focus.
At the end of his speech, the district head congratulated the athletes on their achievements, wished them success in future competitions, and stated that the state's care for sports serves for the healthy growth of future generations and the further strengthening of Azerbaijan's prestige as a sports country on the international arena, and work in this direction will continue consistently in Neftchala district.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party Neftchala District Organization, Ulvi Farzaliyev, the Head of the Neftchala District Youth and Sports Sector, Araz Ahmadov, the Chief Advisor of the Sector, Elkhan Hasanov, the coach-teacher of wrestling at the Children and Youth Sports School, Jeyhun Farajov, and the Head of the Education Department of the Neftchala Children and Youth Sports Chess School, Javid Akbarov, spoke about the state care for sports in our country and noted the important role of physical education of youth in the healthy development of society. It was stated that in recent years, the mass participation in sports has expanded in Neftchala district, interest in sports classes in schools has increased, and district athletes have achieved successful results in republican and international competitions.
In conclusion, athletes and coaches who actively participated in the district's sports life and achieved success in various competitions were awarded honorary diplomas, and commemorative photos were taken with them.
