Oil Prices Sharply Decreased Due to US-Iran Ceasefire

On April 8, 2026, oil prices sharply decreased. News of a ceasefire between the US and Iran caused the price of Brent crude to drop by more than 10%, and WTI crude by more than 15%. Currently, the price has fallen from 106 US dollars to 90 US dollars within 1 hour.

The editorial office, citing CNBC, reports that this sudden decrease occurred after news that the US agreed to suspend attacks against Iran for two weeks. This decision significantly reduced the geopolitical risk premiums that immediately arose in the market.

The sharp decline was recorded after a volatile period where prices reached high levels due to fears of imminent supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Although US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude traded at a higher price than Brent crude due to specific supply constraints, both benchmark crude types fell with the news of de-escalation.

The main reason for the price decrease is the temporary pause in the Iran-US conflict, which allows the market to pull back from record high levels. This cooling in oil prices is considered a direct reaction to geopolitical developments and, if it continues, could reduce pressure on global fuel costs.
