The State Security Service has released information about Islam Rzayev, the head of the Balakan District Executive Power, who was detained in an operation conducted in October of this year.
According to the editorial office, during complex operational-investigative measures carried out by the State Security Service (SSS), substantial suspicions arose that Rzayev Islam Vahid oglu, while serving as the head of the Balakan District Executive Power, used his official position to embezzle a large amount of property entrusted to him and committed numerous corruption crimes.
It was determined that during his tenure as the head of the Balakan District Executive Power, Islam Rzayev embezzled financial resources allocated from the state budget for unemployed and low-income individuals, as well as for repair, construction, and landscaping work in the district, by abusing his official powers. He did not ensure that these funds were spent for their intended purpose and also accepted bribes from officials and businessmen.
In connection with the facts, Islam Rzayev was detained as part of a criminal case initiated by the Investigation Department of the SSS and was charged under Articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement in a large amount) and 311.3.2 (repeated bribery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. A court decision ordered his pre-trial detention.
Currently, investigative and operational measures are continuing in the criminal case," the statement emphasized.
