In the near future, the possibility of serious problems arising regarding the provision of computing power required for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) has come to the fore. This issue is particularly related to the energy demand of computing centers and the effectiveness of cooling systems. In this context, the idea of creating computing centers in space attracts attention.

Redaksiya reports that Elon Musk claims that providing terawatt-scale artificial intelligence computing power with energy and cooling it on Earth will soon become impossible. According to Musk, a solution to this problem could be the creation of computing centers in space, particularly in geostationary orbit (GEO). The abundance of solar energy in space and the possibilities for cooling via radiation could create favorable conditions for such centers.

However, the creation of computing centers in space faces several challenges. Firstly, the transportation of equipment into space, meaning the large mass required to launch them into orbit, is a problem. Furthermore, the development of equipment resistant to cosmic radiation and the establishment of reliable network connections in space are also significant technical challenges. These factors currently present the creation of computing centers in space as a prospect for the distant future.
