The name of the Second Alley of Martyrs, where National Hero, martyred Major General Polad Hashimov and martyrs of the Patriotic War are also buried, has been changed.

The editorial office reports that the Ministry of Defense informed Oxu.az about this. From now on, the alley will be called the Military Memorial Cemetery.

Colonel Anar Eyvazov, head of the Press and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defense, told APA that extensive restoration work has been carried out at the Military Memorial Cemetery in accordance with the instructions of the Commander-in-Chief, within the framework of the fifth anniversary of the Patriotic War: “As a result of the reconstruction work carried out in this area, where our military personnel martyred in the First and Second Karabakh Wars, April Battles, anti-terror operations, and other operations, including a helicopter crash, as well as our generals and officers who particularly distinguished themselves in service to the Motherland, and civilians awarded various state honors, are laid to rest, the existing stone fence has been removed.

As a result of the reconstruction work carried out under the instruction of the Commander-in-Chief, the wishes and suggestions of the martyrs' families were also taken into account in this place, where a total of 670 martyrs, including 12 National Heroes and 11 Heroes of the Patriotic War, are laid to rest.”

According to him, a 44-meter monumental monument symbolizing the 44-day Patriotic War has been erected: “Also, plaques reflecting each day, information, and events of the 44-day Patriotic War have been installed. Due to the reconstruction work carried out in the area, this sacred place for us symbolizes the national and spiritual values of our people and the cherished memories of our martyrs. Every citizen visiting this sacred place will feel the sacrifice of our martyrs here. It will always protect our heritage in my heart.”
