A French expert carried out a fraudulent operation amounting to 34,000 US dollars on the Polymarket prediction market. This action once again highlights the potential vulnerabilities present in financial forecasting platforms. The incident occurred on a platform where users bet on the outcomes of certain events.
The editorial office reports that the expert determined the service obtained weather condition data from a sensor located at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. This discovery allowed him to understand the weak point of the prediction mechanism. He decided to challenge the system by placing a bet on the temperature increasing.
After placing his bet, the expert went to the area where the air sensor was located and heated it using a hairdryer. As a result of this manipulation, the sensor transmitted incorrect temperature data, and thus, he successfully defrauded the prediction market twice. This incident raises serious questions about the security of digital markets and the reliability of data sources.
