Vibrio vulnificus is a bacterium found in warm coastal waters that can be transmitted through raw seafood or open wounds. This bacterium can cause serious health problems in humans, even leading to fatal outcomes. The disease poses a greater threat, especially for individuals with weakened immune systems.

Redaksiya reports that, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Vibrio vulnificus infections have been increasing in recent years. In 2023, more than 150 deaths caused by this bacterium were recorded in the country, indicating a significant increase compared to previous years. Experts attribute this rise to the warming of sea waters as a result of climate change and the expansion of the bacteria's spread area.

To prevent infection with the bacterium, it is recommended to avoid raw seafood, especially oysters and other shellfish. Furthermore, it is important to protect open wounds from warm seawater and to clean and disinfect wounds immediately. If symptoms of Vibrio vulnificus infection are observed, such as fever, chills, skin redness, and swelling around the wound, immediate medical attention should be sought.
