Iran is strengthening its defenses on Kharg Island to protect against a potential US ground invasion.
CNN reported this, citing sources.
It was noted that in recent weeks, Iran has been laying traps, including anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, and deploying additional military personnel, air defense systems, and surface-to-air missile systems to Kharg Island in preparation for a possible US operation to seize control of the island.
It was emphasized that the Washington administration has considered seizing an island in the northeastern Persian Gulf, an economic lifeline through which approximately 90% of Iran's crude oil exports pass, as a means to pressure Iran into restoring shipping activities through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, experts say that this move carries high risks of casualties due to the island's strong defenses.
