Azerbaijan, which has already proven its potential to keep pace with the industrial revolutions of the modern world, demonstrated its preference for using renewable resources in electricity production on January 6, 2026. Three years ago, construction began on the "Khizi-Absheron" Wind Power Plant in the Khizi region by the Saudi Arabian company “ACWA Power,” due to the area being more suitable in terms of natural climate potential. It should also be noted that this is the largest wind power plant in Azerbaijan.
A total of 37 wind turbines have been installed for this project, each with a capacity of 6.5 MW. The investment value of the project is estimated at 300 million US dollars. It is noteworthy that “ACWA Power” is investing this volume of funds outside its country for the first time. Of course, this fact itself provides grounds to say that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, like other countries, views Azerbaijan as a reliable partner. We must also specifically emphasize that the relations between these two countries are built on genuine sincere friendship. The relations between our countries, which have deep historical ties in terms of religion and nationality, have been further strengthened after the Kingdom's unconditional support for our country's territorial integrity. Demonstrating a true example of justice, Saudi Arabia has consistently supported Azerbaijan, even in the now-past "Nagorno-Karabakh" conflict.
The Kingdom has openly recognized Armenia as an aggressor nation and severed all ties with them. This fact in itself clarifies many matters. The attraction of such a large volume of private investment to our country by “ACWA Power” is, of course, a logical consequence of the reforms being carried out in Azerbaijan. The economic stability and favorable investment environment in our country currently create great confidence among investors. Projects of this type make a significant contribution to the state's energy security.
Furthermore, the commissioning of such projects prevents the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere. The goal set by the esteemed President Mr. Ilham Aliyev to reach 30% of installed capacity from renewable energy sources in our country by 2030 will undoubtedly add strength to our nation's power.
