Questions regarding the necessity of trams in Baku have been clarified.
Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov spoke at a roundtable discussion dedicated to the implementation of the "State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku City and its Environs for 2025-2030" for the year 2025.
R. Hummatov noted that rapid infrastructure development will occur in areas where tram lines are established.
“Trams have many advantages. They have a high passenger carrying capacity, are environmentally friendly, long-lasting (with an operational life of up to 50 years), and do not get stuck in traffic because they run on dedicated tracks. This ensures more comfortable and faster travel compared to buses and trolleybuses.
Trams make it possible to ensure the rapid and convenient mobility of large passenger flows. Trams are primarily integrated with bus routes along these corridors. Buses can play a connecting role here, meaning passengers can reach tram stops using this mode of transport.
On the other hand, if there are metro or railway stations along these corridors, trams are definitely integrated with those stations as well. This allows passengers to continue their journeys with modes of transport that are convenient and comfortable for them. World experience shows that rapid infrastructure development occurs in areas where tram lines pass, consequently opening up new job opportunities, which is another advantage of trams,” the deputy minister emphasized.
