Azerbaijan's tourism sector observed a significant increase in domestic travel in 2025. According to the State Tourism Agency, a substantial rise in the number of domestic tourists was recorded during the summer months, and the total number of domestic trips is projected to reach 25 million by the end of the year. This figure is significantly higher than last year's 23 million. The summer months accounted for 40 percent of the growth in domestic tourism.

The editorial office reports that a relative weakness has been observed in the international tourism sector. From January to July, 1.48 million foreign tourists visited Azerbaijan, and this number is projected to exceed 1.7 million by the end of October. However, a decrease compared to last year is observed, which is mainly attributed to regional geopolitical tensions and conflicts in the region.

A decrease in the number of tourists from some countries, particularly Russia and India, has been recorded. Nevertheless, Azerbaijan's tourism sector maintains its optimism and is working on new strategies to revitalize inbound tourism. Steps are being taken to strengthen airlines and diversify tourism offerings.

Special attention is being paid to sustainable tourism for the long-term development of the sector. Officials are working on new initiatives aimed at both environmentally conscious tourists and cultural tourism enthusiasts. This approach will enable Azerbaijan to gain a more attractive position in the global tourism market.

Future plans include developing the country's tourism infrastructure and integrating cultural, ecological, and adventure tourism. Thus, Azerbaijan intends to establish itself as a more attractive tourism destination for various market segments.

The overall picture shows that despite certain declines in international tourist arrivals, the growth in domestic tourism and the measures taken towards sustainable development lay the groundwork for the continuous and stable development of Azerbaijani tourism.
